How to Become a Remote Online Notary in Florida

Florida Notaries now have the opportunity to perform remote online notarizations (RONs), allowing you to notarize documents digitally for clients anywhere in the world — as long as you are physically located in Florida. If you’re interested in becoming an Online Notary in Florida, here’s your step-by-step guide.

Step 1: Hold a Florida Notary Commission

Before you can become an Online Notary, you must already be commissioned as a Florida Notary, a civil law Notary, or a commissioner of deeds. Requirements include:

  • Be 18 years or older

  • Be a legal resident of Florida

  • Have no criminal record

For official details, visit the Florida Department of State – Notary Public

Step 2: Complete RON Training

Florida requires completion of a two-hour RON training course. This course covers:

  • Remote notarization best practices

  • Technology requirements for RON

  • Proper procedures to verify signers remotely

The course can be completed online or in person. Approved education providers include the National Notary Association (NNA). You must submit a certificate of completion with your Online Notary application.

Cost: $20–$170 depending on the provider.

Step 3: Obtain Required Surety Bond & E&O Insurance

Florida Online Notaries must have:

  • $25,000 surety bond (existing bonds can be upgraded if needed)

  • $25,000 Errors & Omissions (E&O) insurance policy

These protections ensure you and your clients are covered in case of mistakes or liability during notarizations.

Step 4: Choose a Compliant RON Technology Provider

You’ll need to contract with a RON provider approved for Florida. Some options include:

  • BlueNotary

  • Cyberize It

  • DocuSign

  • DocVerify

  • NotaryCam

  • Pavaso

  • Proof

  • Safedocs

  • SIGNiX

You may work with multiple providers but must notify the Florida Department of State of any changes using Form DS-DOC-50.

Step 5: Submit Your Online Notary Application

Complete the following steps to submit your application:

  1. Complete the Online Notary Public Application and the Online Notary Public: Required Information Form

  2. Attach proof of:

    • RON training completion

    • $25,000 surety bond

    • $25,000 E&O insurance

    • Copy of your traditional Notary commission

  3. Submit your application with a $10 filing fee to the Florida Department of State

Once approved, you’re officially a Florida Online Notary!
